SUBJECT: Minutes of the Pack 89 Leader's Meeting, 4 June 2005

  1. Opening: Ned Stoll opened the meeting at 11:20am in the Boy Scout Room of the Scout Hut. Total attendance was 10 people:

  2. Review of old business:
    1. Minutes from May 2005 meeting: were approved without change.
    2. District meeting notes: Ned and Marc summarized the following events:
      BALOO Training (5/14/05) went well.
      District Pinewood Derby (5/21/05) went well, winner names weren't recorded.
      Pack 89 75th Anniversary Service Project had 40 people show up to clean.
      www.jerseyshore-bsa.org is a web site with a lot of valuable information.
      22 June, Resident Camp: 26 kids, 13 adults.
      1 & 8 August: District Fundraiser at Sungnam Golf Course POC Marc Garduno.
      August: Korea National Jamboree more info will follow.
      December: Asian Pacific Jamboree in Thailand. $270 to participate in jamboree. POC Ivan Martinez.
    3. Treasurer's Report: Separate attachment to these minutes.
    4. Other Committee Reports:
      1. Secretary: Many positions will be open 2005/6. Some are: Assistant Cubmaster, Training, Secretary, Publicity, Programs, Blue & Gold and also we will most likely need another Tiger Den leader.
      2. Membership: Scout sign-up during school registration 5/17-20: Pete had a recruiting table and obtained about 30 "interest cards". Jenn is following up on these and will pass them out to "lead" Den leaders for further contacting.
      3. 75th Anniversary: On track. 1 Family patch per family and den patches will be paid for by the Pack. Everyone in the pack desiring additional patches or the Pack patch may purchase them through Tonya in the Scout Hut for $5 each. POC: Tonya
  3. New Business:
    1. Cub Scout Residence Camp June 22-24: Paperwork and fees due in to Tonya no later than 15 June. A bus will depart Wed 11AM, bring your lunch with you. Go to our web site to download application forms and drop off with Pete or Tonya. Adult volunteers are needed for scouts whose parents are not able to attend, and help could also be used in the various staff positions. Six stations are planned at this point. Boys may bring pocket knives to work on their whittling chip, swim suits for swimming and their compass for map & compass skills. POC is Tonya.
    2. Pack 89 Picnic 11 June 1100-1400, Picnic Areas 1 and 2 (MP Hill). Please get a final head count from your dens to Marc by Wednesday so he can adjust food purchases. Bridges need to be completed and set-up for crossover. "Gonna-be" Tigers are needed! There will be a Cub-led Bridging Ceremony at 1210. Recycled neckerchiefs will be used. Please bring pot-luck side dishes. Tonya must have final award requests by Monday if you want them at this picnic. POC: Marc.
    3. Summertime Pack Award Activities Tonya has organized three events: Resident Camp in June, swim in July 23 and a Rain-gutter Regatta in August. The swim will be on July 23 from1200-1600hrs at the Main Post pool and picnic area. Food and drinks are not provided, so BYO whatever you will need. POC for the swim is Marc.
  4. Open Forum:
    1. Pack 89 Web Page: Rich provided details on WebAxxs (an option for our Pack owned web page). Everyone thought this was a very good idea, but suggestions were that we should check with District to be sure of what they were offering us and confirm with Larry that the Pack had the $107.40 per year needed for this.
    2. Year 2005/6 Leadership: At this point we have the following leaders confirmed:

    3. Departing Leaders: Please email Jo if you are departing Pack 89 and wish to be removed from the email list.
    4. Popcorn Sale: November 11- December 15th, Pack 89 will be participating. A POC is still needed to coordinate, decide which type to buy, order and organize sellers. This can be a major fund-raiser, especially so near the Christmas time-frame. Please consider volunteering.
    5. Bus Requests: for 2005/6 must be in to Pete by July 2005. So if you will need a bus for an event (like the Task Force Smith Trail or Resident Camp), get your requests in now.
    6. Boys Life Magazine: If you paid for this magazine but are not receiving it, email Ned. He will gather our data and submit it to Pete for reimbursement.
    7. Off Post Den: Mark Remmert has decided not to lead the Off-Post den this year and has agreed to work with Webelos II this year. If anyone feels the need for this den, and is able to lead it, please contact Mark.
    8. Fundraiser Car Wash: As a Pack we will be scheduling a car wash. If there is a den that would like to take on the actual organization of this, there would be a prize/award for those boys. POC is Ricky.
  5. Closing: There being no further business Ned thanked everyone for their dedication to the Cub Scouts and Pack 89. The next pack meeting is the 11 June Picnic. The next leader meeting is 9 July. This meeting was concluded at 1305.
