NEXT PACK COMMITTEE MEETING – December 3, 11:30 at Scout Hut

  1. Treasurer $$ - Larry
Pack balance (combined account and cash box) is $558.63. Significant purchase was $134.35 for web access. Scout Hut balance is $2371. Significant purchase was $875 to pre-order awards and event patches due to an upcoming ordering freeze in January and February. Larry will work with Marc to set up a popcorn selling spreadsheet.
  2. Popcorn (POC Marc) - Popcorn will arrive Monday. Marc will pick it up and prepare for table set up at AFSC luncheon in conjunction with Boy Scout Christmas Tree pre-sales, passing out popcorn to dens for selling at the November Pack meeting, and working out dates to set up sale tables at PX, Commissary, and Boy Scout Christmas Tree Lot in December if needed. This is the first time that anyone knows of for our Pack to do popcorn sales. We can send back any unsold popcorn.
  3. Blue and Gold (POC Alina) – Darcy gave the following information: The theme is “Cubs in the Future” from the Leader’s book. It will be held in the cafeteria, possibly as a potluck. Details still being worked out. Discussion as to date – planned already on calendar to coincide with Pack meeting date of 25 Feb 06.
  4. Space Derby (POC Tonya) – Darcy gave the following information: Kits handed out at October Pack meeting – if any scouts/den leaders want to get more kits, they can be signed for at the Scout Hut from Pete while Tonya is away. Tonya will be at the cafeteria to start setup at 3:30, but needs a volunteer with a pickup truck or large van to move the track equipment. The Space Derby will start at 5 p.m. and Pack meeting will start at 7 p.m. Tonya is planning to get pizza for her den and will coordinate pizza for those den leaders who are also interested  - send her an email by 14 November.
  5. POW-WOW – Ned gave the following information: Scheduled for 12 November, but no one has stepped up to coordinate the training event. Next leader training is scheduled for March 18.
  6. Rechartering (Jenn/Ned) – Information about Friends of Scouting goals and Scout registration renewal information will be posted on the website and put out at the November Pack meeting – rechartering and renewal will take place in December. The goal is for each family to donate a minimum of $30 to Friends of Scouting at rechartering time. With this average donation, the pack will get rank badges free for 2006. Contributing families will receive a 10% discount on all Scout Hut purchases and 20% discount on camp fees.
  7. Den Structure: We have received word about a new leader for our Bear den that Tonya is currently running along with her Webelos I den. This new leader should enable us to clear out the current waiting list. Assistant leaders are still needed for some dens, and backup leaders need to be identified for dens with active duty leaders. Many dens have more than 8 boys, which is the den size that we need to adhere to. Currently all dens will remain as is: Den 1 Tigers (11 – will split if any more Tigers join), Den 2 Web II (8), Den 3 Bears (11), Den 4 Web II (4), Den 5 Wolves (8-9), Den 6 Web I (8), Den 7 Wolves (10), Den 8 Bears (9), Den 9 Bears (4), Den 11 Web I (10).
  8. Columbus Day Parade (POC Marc) – Parade went well with good attendance from Pack 89 and Korean Scouting Association Scouts. Issues stemmed from confusion about weather delays and the logistics of getting the Korean Scouts on post and to the Commissary. Marc will send historical/POC information to Rich for the website.
  9. Pack 89 T-shirts (POC Tonya) – Darcy gave the following information: Cut-off to order Pack t-shirts is November 15. Please place orders by den.
  10. Pack 89 Neckerchiefs (POC Marc) – Marc ordered Pack 89 Neckerchiefs, which should be available by the December Pack meeting. Cost will be about $12.
  11. Pack Committee Structure: Vacancy in Training position. Last week’s training was well attended. Two leaders from Pack 89 were certified: Jane Allgood (Den 11) and Susan Phillips (Den 3). The next leader training opportunity will be March 18, 2006.
  12. Webelos Activity University (POC Marc) – The event was attended by 14-15 boys as well as KSA Scouts and was very successful in many areas. Many Webelos II Scouts are almost ready for Arrow of Light, the Webelos I Scouts that attended got a great start towards earning the Webelos badge, and Camp Market was discovered as a great resource for camping and training.
  13. KSA Overnighter (POC Marc) – Another successful camping activity. The boys made gliders and earned the KSA glider wings to wear on their uniforms. Wolves through Webelos attended this event.
  14. District Roundtable Notes:
  15. Website @ Rich – The new website is up and running at: www.pack89korea.org ** Den Leaders - Please email Den information to Rich. You can post your den meeting time and place, upcoming events or just about anything you want your den to know OR what you want the rest of us to know ABOUT your den! This website needs to be relevant, provide up-to-date information and continuity for dens and the pack in order for it to work. Historical information, AAR’s about events, contact information, and current calendar information will make this site a great resource for parents, Scouts, and leaders. Click on the Webmaster link to send feedback and navigation/visibility issues to Rich.
  16. November Pack Meeting: The Theme is “My Family”. Darcy will send a note asking den leaders to volunteer dens for pieces of the meeting, or email her if you have a specific request. Please ask parents to control younger siblings at Pack meetings, or ask if a parent would volunteer to run a “Pixie Den” and provide activities for the younger siblings to keep them entertained during the meeting.
  17. Discussion about meeting place – We discussed the pros and cons of meeting in the gymnasium and determined that lighting problems, need for a PA system, and difficulty corralling everyone made it a less desirable meeting place than the cafeteria. An alternate suggestion was for the conference room at the ACS building, and that will be looked in to. We need to ensure that we adhere to time management and keep the boys focused so that we can begin and end on time.
  18. December Pack Meeting (POC Marc) – This will have the Arrow of Light ceremony – more details to follow. Crossover will take place in January for eligible boys.
  19. Awards Discussion – It was suggested and discussed at the meeting that den leaders would like to give out awards at the Pack meetings. In order to do this, Tonya will need to give out the baggies to den leaders at a date prior to the Pack meeting (maybe the Wednesday before), which means that Packmaster files and award requests will need to be sent in on an earlier deadline. Den leaders in attendance said they would be happy to sort awards into bags for individual boys in their dens so something can be handed out at the Pack meeting rather then later. Further discussion needed when Tonya returns from leave.
  20. National Summertime Pack Award – Pete came into the meeting and presented this streamer for the Pack flag.
